What is EDAC-ATAC?
EDAC-ATAC is a Canadian organization of professionals in the field of eating disorders and related areas, dedicated to serving the needs of those whose lives are impacted by eating disorders. Our national community is small, our geography huge. Membership to our growing organization provides numerous opportunities for communication and collaboration across our country.
The EDAC-ATAC Board of Directors would like to welcome new members and to thank renewing members for their support of EDAC-ATAC , each and every year. We encourage those involved in the care and research of eating disorders to stand up and be counted amongst peers from across Canada in strengthening this new and first ever Canadian association of eating disorder professionals.
EDAC-ATAC was incorporated in 2008. Joining EDAC-ATAC provides opportunities to connect with clinicians who share your interests and allows you to be a part of a growing organization dedicated to improving care for individuals with eating disorders across Canada.
Membership dues will help support the Board of Directors in working together to establish the groundwork for what we hope will be a vibrant and scholarly association. Our national community is small, our geography huge. EDAC-ATAC needs your help and hopes that you will also consider volunteering some time to help us develop. Let’s join together to make this happen!
EDAC-ATAC is registered as a not for profit organization in the Province of Ontario. Memberships are available for one and two calendar years, and run January-December.
Members who join after November 1st shall have their membership credited to the following year.
Why join EDAC-ATAC?
EDAC-ATAC accomplishments in 2024:
- The EDAC-ATAC 2024 conference was held at UBC-Vancouver in October 2024, on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), which was the first time we had come together in person since 2018. We had received strong submissions for the conference, with 62 separate presentations, in addition to the keynotes and plenary. The EDAC-ATAC website has been updated with content from the conference, so that members who were not able to join us in person now have access to conference materials, including recordings of the keynotes and plenary, as well as workshops, a conference photo gallery, and presentation slides from the sessions.
- We hosted a webinar about Body Peace Canada: A Virtual Recovery Support Resource, given by Shaleen Jones. This, and other previously held webinars, are available for viewing in the Members Only section on the EDAC website.
- The long-standing Nutrition and Psychotherapists in Private Practice sections continue to meet regularly and are open to welcoming new members.
- To keep members informed about EDAC activities and share relevant updates, such as research opportunities and job postings, we published nine newsletters in 2024, including both longer editions and shorter newsflashes.
- In 2024, we assigned our two EDAC bursaries of $500 each to the conference. We selected two winners based on a random drawing among trainee members who had registered for the conference and had submitted an abstract. The winners were announced in the April newsletter. You can read more about their experiences at the conference in the January 2025 newsletter.
- This year, we had fruitful discussions with EDAC members, including many of you, on enhancing membership engagement and making membership more rewarding. As we refine these ideas in 2025, we welcome new initiatives.
What’s ahead in 2025:
- Monthly Newsflash/Newsletter to keep members updated with EDAC-ATAC events, research highlights and contributions from the membership. We welcome submissions from members (professionals and trainees), for example, to highlight clinical initiatives you are involved in, or to disseminate new research findings. Trainees are also invited to contribute; In 2024, we were pleased to feature a student submission and hope to make this a regular addition to the newsletter in 2025.
- Webinars, which will continue to be recorded and posted for viewing on the Members Only section of our website.
- New members have stepped forward to express interest in committee work, creating exciting opportunities and increased engagement. More details to follow.
- We are also thrilled to have confirmed that EDAC-ATAC 2026 will take place in Halifax. The new conference organizing committee has already met to begin planning and will be sharing updates and a “Save the Date” when more details are available.
